Abstract

The spread of tea in the West, especially in Britain, was closely related to the awareness of its good effect on physical health. The utilization of tea began with medicinal purposes, then, Chinese ancestors continued to explore and summarize the efficacy of tea and related knowledge was also passed on to Japan along with the exchanges between China and Japan. Therefore, the missionaries who came to the East learned the knowledge and translated it to the West during the early modern times, it also passed on to Britain through translation, adaptation, and even quotation. The dissemination of knowledge about the efficacy of tea was an aspect of cultural exchanges between the East and the West, which promoted the use and consumption of tea in the West in the form of medicines or beverages. In this regard, the study of species in world history should not ignore the dissemination of knowledge related.
