On July 11th, IEC held the project proposal meeting of A Comparative Study of Medieval Chinese and European Civilizations.Professor Zhong Yinghua (Principle of TJNU), Researcher Guo Zilin (Director of the Scientific Research Planning Division of the Chinese Academy of History), Mr. Wang Qingjie (Director of Tianjin Social Science Office), Professor Han Dongyu (Vice-principle of Northeast Normal University) attended and addressed at the opening ceremony. Professor Qin Long (Chief of the Social Sciences Division of TJNU) led the ceremony. The meeting also included staff of School of History and Cultureand IEC and members of the project.
Professor Han Dongyu led the proposal and Researcher Peng Wei (Faculty member of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences), Professor Yang Dongliang (Department of History, Nankai University), Professor Li Zhenhong (School of History and Culture, Henan University), Professor Xu Hao (Departmentof History, Renmin University of China) were convened as expert panel.
Professor Hou Jianxin of IEC, the chief expert of the project, gave a brief description of the project from the intention of the project, the review of the research and the aim of it. Heads of the sub-topics, Professor Xu Bin, Professor Zhang Qiusheng, Professor Mao Xi reported on The political and economic system of Medieval China and Europe, The Spiritual World of Medieval Chinese and European and Social life and Social Governance in Medieval China and Europe respectively. Scholars of the expert panel spoke highly of the theoretical value and practical significance of the project, the designing of the research plan and the strength of chief expert and his research team. The expert panel all agreed that the proposal was passed and also give advice to it from the framework, research approach and methodology.
A Comparative Study of Medieval Chinese and European Civilizations is a project of Major Historical Issues granted by Chinese National social science Fund of Chinese National Office of Philosophy and Social Sciences. The success of the proposal made for a good start for the project, which helped to clear the head of the research group, identify research priority, and lay foundation for enhancing the project.
