On April 14, 2023, invited by Prof. Hou Jianxin, Prof. Huang Minxing of the Institute of Middle Eastern Studies of Northwest University gave an academic lecture titled " The Centennial Changes in the Regional Pattern of the Modern Middle East " in IEC. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Gu Yanfang, Deputy Dean of the Institute, and attended by faculty and students of IEC.

Professor Huang Minxing is currently a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Middle Eastern Institute of Northwest University. He is a national talent and the chief expert of the "Sanqin Scholars Innovation Team" of World History in Shaanxi Province. He is also the vice president of the China Association of Modern World History, the vice president of the Chinese Association of Middle East Studies, and the editorial board member of World History and West Asia and Africa.

Prof. Huang Minxing first explained the connotation of the concepts of "Middle East" and "Near East", and then divides the pattern of the Middle East since 1900 into five phases. From 1900 to 1920 is the period of disintegration of the traditional regional order in the Middle East, when the "Great Game" of European powers around the control of the Middle East, and the traditional universal empire Ottoman Empire collapsed. The period from 1920 to 1947, the European powers dismembered the Ottoman Empire through the Versailles system, and the Middle East initiated the process of nation-state building while resisting colonialism.

1947 to 1979 was the period of rising nationalism in the Middle East, and oil-producing countries began to rise. 1979 to 2011 was a period of economic and political transformation in the Middle East. The Middle East countries have promoted political reform and economic adjustment, and a new pattern of regional cooperation has emerged. In 2011, countries in the Middle East fell into comprehensive turmoil, and two major regional alliances, Sunni and Shia, were formed. 2011 to 2022 is a period of great turmoil, great division and great reorganization. Finally, Professor Huang Minxing summarized the basic characteristics of the centennial change in the Middle East from 13 aspects, and believed that the changes in the pattern of the Middle East since the 20th century have had a profound impact on the world.
