Liu Debin

On 18 May 2021, at the invitation of Professor Hou Jianxin, Professor Liu Debin, Director of the Institute of International Relations of Jilin University, lectured in our Institute with the title “A Century of Changes and Sino-American Relations”.

Firstly, Professor Liu Debin analyzed the concept of “A Century of Changes”, indicated that the essence of concept was the change in the historical structure of the world, which was manifested in the various difficulties faced by western countries.

Then he discussed the threat of a so-called “New Cold War” between the US and China, argued that the two powers were indeed facing a serious competitive situation. However, this new situation was both a challenge and an opportunity for China.

Finally, he called on everyone to pay attention to the “historical approach” in the study of international relations, in order to build theories of international relations with Chinese characteristics.
