On November 19th, Professor Long Xiuqing from Sun Yat-Sen University gave a lecture to Institute of European Civilization on dissertation writing for postgraduates majored in world history. Prof. Long first explained the importance of topic choice and question awareness. He then demonstrated how to collect and interpret historical resources. The same archive can be interpreted in different views，including the history of society, politics and economy. The narrative can be chronologic or be arranged by historical events. The professor finally presented common problems and suggests of current dissertation writing.
Professor Long Xiuqing was a member of Institute of European Civilization. He is now the professor of Department of History of Sun Yat-sen University and the vice-president of Chinese Research Association of World Ancient and Medieval History. He is also the fellow of Ecclesiastical History Society. His research mainly focused on European medieval history and history of Christianity.
