In 2005, the College of History and Culture founded the World History Discipline Undergraduate Program which enrolled students independently. In 2015, the Double-Degree Experimental Program of World History and Foreign Languages was founded. Nowadays, there are only three such kind of Double-Degree Program among all Universities' History Departments in China.      

Firstly, in the meeting, professor HOU introduced the establishment background and significance of the double-degree program to students. He pointed out that China in the new era was in urgent need of inter-disciplinary elites with both foreign language ability and history attainment. This program also trained and cultivated reserve talent for the development of World History Discipline in the future. It was for the purpose of providing a better platform for students who were major in world history to improve their skills in foreign languages quickly that the college broke through various obstacles and founded the experimental program. Professor HOU specifically pointed out that students in the double-degree program should identify substance and application, be proficient in professional study, aim for lofty aspirations and work hard to inherit Chinese cultural heritage. Then, professor HOU shared his macro view of world history with students with the concentration on the main points. He not only sorted out and summarized the professional knowledge which had been studied by the students, but also broaden their academic outlook. Professor HOU pointed out that researchers of world history should have a global perspective, and European civilizations should be the focus of our attention. After 1840, Chinese people kept on realizing the world and understanding ourselves more deeply with the exploration and discussion of the West. History was a treasure of wisdom and it should arouse students’ infinite interest and unlimited imagination.
