JIANG Qizhou: William Hoskins and Rise of New Social History in Britain

Abstract: William G. Hoskins was a celebrated twentieth-century British historian, who tried his best to formulate new perspectives regarding the local history and in doing so he pioneered in Britain's new social history. He proposed key points such as the importance of local community, the independence of local history, the humanity-centered historiography, and the diversity of primary sources, all of which constituted a living headspring of new social history.
